NZCT Chamber Music Contest - 2019 Chamber Season Highlights
I’m so proud of our students for their dedication and commitment throughout the 2019 chamber music season. As they prepared for the Chamber Music Contest, they embraced not only their own musical parts, but also the essential skills of listening, responding, and growing together as an ensemble.
My hope is that, as they perform and collaborate, they carry with them the joyful memories of making music together - the rehearsals, discoveries, and shared moments that make chamber music such a rewarding journey.

Central Regional Final Finalists
This ensemble performed Metrorhythmia by Tomislav Baynov, an inventive work in an alternative time signature that explores cross rhythms while maintaining an urban groove and rich harmonic textures. Their performance was engaging and precise, with a strong sense of ensemble and musical insight. The trio’s careful attention to phrasing, rhythmic clarity, and interpretative detail brought the music to life, earning praise from the adjudicator: “Great work! I liked the piece very much, and you brought it out very well!”
Their commitment, thoughtful preparation, and shared artistic vision were evident throughout the season, resulting in a rewarding and memorable chamber music experience.
