NZCT Chamber Music Contest - 2025 Chamber Season Highlights

It was a pleasure to work with these dedicated young musicians in preparation for the 2025 NZCT Chamber Music Contest. Across rehearsals and performances, students shared musical ideas, and built strong teamwork as an ensemble. Their commitment, and supporting each other was clear and rewarding throughout the season.

This ensemble’s musical maturity and nuanced interpretations stood out, earning them a place in the Regional Final.

Spicy Wings Qourgette - Miles, Samuel, Annika, Amelia
Coached in collaboration with Beth Chen Piano Studio
These young musicians presented a compelling rendition of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, bringing clarity, drive, and a strong sense of ensemble to this iconic work.

Triple Shot - Hamish, Liam, Miles
Their performance highlighted both stylistic versatility and strong ensemble connection, moving seamlessly between classical refinement and contemporary rhythmic groove.

SyncopaFour - Olivia, Annika, Mietta, Amelia
Coached in collaboration with Lynley Culliford, Helene Pohl, Beth Chen
Working with an unfamiliar repertoire and complex rhythmic language, the ensemble showed strong commitment and growing confidence in navigating its challenges.

With sincere thanks to my colleagues for their collaboration and dedication in coaching these ensembles throughout the season. It has been a privilege to witness the growth, commitment, and musical curiosity of each group.

As we close the 2025 chamber season, I look ahead to 2026 with anticipation - new ensembles, new repertoires, and the fresh sparks that make chamber music such a rewarding journey.
